How to resolve TAP Driver Issues on Windows

TAP Driver issues are mostly caused by conflicting OpenVPN software - security software or corruption inside the Windows registry.

Try the steps below to fix most TAP related issues with the TorGuard Client.

1) Temporarily disable/uninstall any security software (reboot) and retest - uninstalling/rebooting is normally the cleanest method, some security software still runs various checks even while disabled.

2) Uninstall any other VPN software currently installed, this is mostly aimed at clients that support OpenVPN as they may use the same driver and clash.

3) Uninstall all TAP drivers...

a) Go to >> Control Panel >> System and Security >> System >> Device Manager

b) Scroll down to Network Adapters, right-click the TAP drivers and uninstall them, deleting the driver too when asked

c) REBOOT - very important.

d) Reconnect to TG and it will prompt to reinstall the driver, click yes and then retry your connection.

4) Install this older TAP driver >> http://swupdate.openvpn.org/community/releases/tap-windows-9.9.2_3.exe
